About Shanti Stupa In Leh- is a white domed structure that is a Buddhist monument built in 1991 by Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura as a part of the Peace Pagoda Mission. It is one of Ladakh’s most popular attractions, offering enchanting views of Leh City, snow-clad mountains, sunrise, and sunset.
There are holy relics of Buddha inside the stupa which Dalai Lama enshrined. Shanti stupa is spread over two levels- one level features a Buddha idol and the other features relics showing the birth of Buddha, the death of Buddha ( Mahanirvana), and Buddha defeating the devils.
Stupa is perched at an elevation of 4,267 meters and offers panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges that surround this round structure.
The stupa has a two-level structure made up of white marble. The first level has a large dome that represents the Buddha’s enlightenment and the second level features a small dome that depicts Buddha’s Nirvana.
You can visit in the summer season from July to September when the weather is warm and roads are clear. The place is open on all days from 5 AM to 9 PM.
